Conversation Formatting
1. Set the scene
Welcome the person
Explain purpose of meeting
Set timescale for the meeting
2. Give feedback carefully
Use AID or NVC to explain what is currently happening / has happened and how you feel and listen to them
3. Make expectations clear (agreed GOAL)
Explain how you'd like things to be - make clear the outcomes that you need achieving e.g. I need you to let me know every time x happens on the same day
Ask them how easy they think it will be to achieve what you have suggested
4. Agree a plan
Ask the question, ‘what else needs to happen for us to be able to sort this out?'
Seek their ideas first, then add yours if appropriate
Ask them what might get in the way of this happening what barriers there might be
Ask them what support they need / want from you to make things easier for them, what they need from their colleagues
5. Ask for commitment
Have them say what they will do, and by when and what the plan is going forward
6. Agree a review
Agree a suitable review date to discuss how this is working (maybe in a week or two initially)
